Shimla

Shimla is one of the most famous hill stations of India. Shimla got its name from Shyamala which is actually incarnation of the Goddess Kali who is the Goddess of power as well as anger. Even though the name suggests this, Shimla is totally a different place. This is the place where people can enjoy calmness. This is the place wherein you can see the blessing of God through the natural beauty of the place.Shimla is located at the altitude of 2159 meters above the sea level towards the south of north India in the state of Himachal Pradesh. In Shimla winters are cold as the chill winds blow form the upper Himalayas. In summers the temperature is not too high and maximum temperature can cross up to 25 degree C. The best part of the month to visit Shimla is between September and November.

Mall is the prime attraction of Shimla for the tourist. This is because it is the center to innumerous restaurants, shops, a heritage theater and also a focus of high spirits. Next to the mall is the Lkkad and Tibetian bazaar.

The most important building on the Mall is the yellow Christ church. This church is considered to be the second largest church in northern India. The church is designed by Colonel JT Boileau in the year 1844. The silhouette of the church can be seen on the skyline from a long distance around.

Himachal state library is the one that is situated near the mall area of the city of Shimla. This is the library wherein you can found historical books, manuscripts, notes as well as ancient records.

Summer hill which is located at the altitude of 1283 meters from the sea level. This place is also known as Potter’s hill as before the potters used to go there to collect clay. You can find rich variety of flora and fauna. If you want to get away form the busy life and looking for peace of mind this is the place you should go.

Jakhu temple of Shimla is the temple that is dedicated to Lord Hanuman. This is main spot for the monkeys as you will find many of them at this temple. It is highly a religious place and a huge number of devotees come there to pray.

How to reach Shimla

In case you are planning your vacation to Shimla, reaching out to this place will not be a problem because it is easily accessible through airways, roadways as well as railways.

If you prefer to go by railways then the nearest station is Kalka which is four hours from Delhi. Then you need to take mountain train from Kalka to Shimla.

If airways are comfortable for you check out the airport which is 22km from the main city and has flights from Delhi and Kullu. Chandigarh airport is also nearby. From the airport you can opt for cabs to reach this place. There are many attractions at this place and if you want to have a look at them hiring cab would be a better and a convenient option.
