Yamunotri

Yamunotri is a beautiful place which is situated in the lap of Himalayas opposite to Gangotri. There is a road opposite to Gangotri which bifurcates from Dharasu and goes to Yamunotri. You can visit this place from Mussorie. This is a very popular tourist destination as it is one of the major destinations of Char Dham Yatra. Many pilgrims make a visit to this place. There is popular hot springs at this place where pilgrims take a bath as it is considered to be very holy by them. If you are planning for the Char Dham yatra, you would surely get the privilege to witness this beautiful place.

Yamunotri is considered to be a place of God and is very religious for Hindus. It is located at the elevation of about 3,235 meters. Here you will find the extreme climate during day as well as night. It is a snow bound region which makes it scenic view even more aesthetic and beautiful.

People visit Yamunotri mostly in the period of May to October. It is because this place is covered with snow for most of the times and it is not possible to reach at different destinations during that time. Yamunotri has a special mention in the Hindu religion. Hot springs in this region are the major attractions of this place. Devotees coming here offer rice and potatoes tied in a cloth at these springs as it are considered to be holy by them.

Yamunotri temple, Famous temple of goddess Yamuna is worth a visit. This temple was constructed in 19th century by Maharani Gularia of Jaipur. However, it remains closed during the period of November to May.

Surya Kund is also a very popular destination over here for sight seeing. It is a pool where thermal springs are flowing. Before you enter into Yamunotri temple, you can see a huge rock pillar which is known as Divya Shila. On the banks of river Yamuna, you can find Sayanchatti which is known for its scenic beauty

Jankichatti is very famous for its thermal springs. All tourists coming over here make a visit to this place in order to enjoy bath and get refreshment after the tedious journey.

Another popular destination at Yamunotri is Hanumanchatti. This is a place where the Ganga and Yamuna rivers are confluenced at one point.

How To Reach Yamunotri

There are different means by which you can reach Yamunotri.

If you are planning to go to Yamunotri by air, best option is to travel by air to Jolly Grant airport. It is located just 18 km away from Rishikesh.

If you are going by train, you can go to Rishikesh station which is 250 km away. From there, you can either go by bus or you can even hire a private car. It is nearest from Hanumanchatti which is just 14 kms away from this place. Here, you can get the accommodation easily as there are many hotels and dharamshalas available at this place. You can get good food over here at popular dhabas.
